Kampala , Uganda

I am a self-employed website and user interface developer specializing in HTML5, CSS, Javacript, Php and content management systems like joomla and wordpress, with a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology and a Post-graduate Diploma in Education from Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. I volunteer for Joomla where I focus on training fellow women and girls on how to use the CMS. I am also the founder of Design for Women foundation Africa which focuses on the use of technology and art to develop solutions that help women in Africa and across the world to deal with social, political, health and other problems that affect us.

As a young woman in Africa, I had trouble getting employment in the ICT field; they preferred hiring men for the jobs. I had both software and computer hardware skills, but there was no place for me in many companies due bias against female ICT personnel. Through Use of social media, I decided to establish myself as a website developer, by them my skills were only HTML, CSS and PHP. I admired people who knew how to use Joomla, it made work a little bit easier and faster. So... I decided to learn Joomla. It was simple, faster and I could design beautiful joomla websites. I joined a team and later decided to train fellow women who struggle with unemployment in the ICT field.
