I have been developing websites since 2000. In 2005 I quit my day job to become a full-time freelancer. At that time I was building static HTML/CSS websites. Clients kept asking if they could easily update their own websites, and I knew I had to start using a database-driven solution. I researched options and found ColdFusion, but I’m not a programmer so that was way over my head. Further search revealed Joomla and Drupal, and I decided to use Joomla because of the numerous pre-built solutions available would allow me to easily and inexpensively provide a lot of additional functionality to websites that I wasn’t able to do using static HTML/CSS. Drupal didn’t have pre-built extensions or templates that I could find.
It took me about a year of studying Joomla to finally begin understanding how it worked, the workflow was backwards from what I was used to. In 2007 I built my first Joomla 1.0 website for a client and never regretted my choice.
Since then I have used Joomla exclusively in my freelance business. At that time I lived in a small mountain town in California and the nearest JUG was at least 3 hours away, so I wasn’t able to interact with other Joomla users.
When the first Joomla World Conference was scheduled in San Jose, CA in 2012 I decided to attend and it was an exciting experience. I learned a lot, met a lot of nice people from around the world, and had a blast. Joomla people are awesome! I’ve gone on to attend most JWC's since - I've only missed JWC15 in India. :-(
I moved to Loveland, Colorado in 2014 and joined the Denver JUG. I’m looking to get more involved in volunteering with Joomla, starting small and working into more responsibilities as my time allows.
I am currently a moderator on the Joomla! Showcase Directory. Certified Joomla! 3 Administrator.
