Date: 18 June 2026 - 19:00-20:00 CEST (5:00pm - 6:00pm UTC)

Attendees: Cyril Rezé, Emmanuel Lemor, Josean Telleria, Mike Kritzer, Richard Gosler.

Security Incidents

  • An active wave of hacking is affecting numerous Joomla sites within the community.
  • AI-assisted hacking is intensifying the threat.
  • This affects not only Joomla but all web platforms.
  • The JED's VEL list is not up to date.
  • How should Joomla communicate with users, and how can information on this subject be improved?

Portal Architecture: State of the Sites

  • The current situation for many sites is chaotic: a lack of monitoring, processes, and clearly identified individuals in charge.
  • Some sites lack a webmaster; it is like "driving a car at 200 km/h with no driver."
  • Years of volunteer contributions without governance: extensions installed without OSM approval, and a lack of documentation and cleanup.
  • Header and footer menus served via static HTML files on a CDN and injected via templates: a completely obsolete architecture.
  • Difficulty getting simple issues fixed on joomla.org sites.
  • Cyril has created a site audit folder within the "assets" directory of the working group responsible for the joomla.org redesign.

Consolidation Strategy

  • Consensus: significantly reduce the number of portals.
  • Josean’s document, created with the help of AI (Claude + a Chrome extension for URL extraction), maps current sites and identifies those to be removed.
  • Legacy sites running on Joomla 2.5/3.x/3.10: do not migrate or update them; rebuild them entirely on Joomla 5/6.
  • Migrate content manually or via the database if necessary; do not attempt to update obsolete installations.
  • Sites dedicated to trademarks and certifications: candidates for direct integration into joomla.org.
  • Fewer sites mean simplified maintenance, reduced proliferation of third-party extensions, and lower risk.
  • Priority: identify which sites to keep, which to merge, and which to retire.

Redesign Team restructuring for the next phase of the project

  • The initial redesign team has been split into three subgroups:
    • Structure and content working group (primarily marketing team members): wireframes and content strategy
    • Development/CSS working group: Angie’s area
    • Portal Architecture working group: involving the Operations department
  • Overall coordination channel (the base camp): monthly synchronization meetings to ensure team alignment
  • Richard has been put in charge of overall coordination.
  • Nadja has joined the "Structure and content" working group.
  • Adoption of a "wireframes-first" approach: wireframes, followed by content, before hand-off to developers for CSS and components.

Wireframing Plan

  • Start with joomla.org homepage: the “front door,” highest priority
    • Use Rutgers study PDFs (already in assets folder) and Sprint outputs as input
    • Josean to read the Rutgers report and propose a draft menu structure alongside the first wireframe
    • Mike to locate the recorded final presentation of the Rutgers study (via Laura) for Josean
  • Work page-by-page (actually section-by-section): one unified site vision, built incrementally
  • Figma selected as primary wireframe and design tool
    • Josean also proposed Miro for site-map/menu structure work (free, no editor-seat cost)
    • Whimsical flagged as an alternative that handles both mind maps and wireframes
    • Penpot considered but seen as too limited for design-stage work
    • Figma model: limit paid editor seats (3 or 4); everyone else comments only
    • Richard has already emailed Figma requesting sponsorship for a 10-user account; Figma replied and a call is scheduled for tomorrow
  • Josean will share emails, start in Miro/Figma over the weekend, and use Mattermost for overflow discussion only

Pizza, Bugs & Friends (August 21-22)

  • Materials from January PBF available: photos and video from last event
  • Cyril working on a first trailer for June; in contact with Olivier from PBF Team
  • Theme candidate: Joomla 6.2 (releasing October) with a “walking on the moon” concept?
  • “Bugs” in the name is increasingly inaccurate: event now covers features, testing, and docs, not just bug fixes
    • Name change ideas floated: “Pizza, People & Fun,” “Pizza & Fun”; no decision, too soon for August
    • Worth revisiting for future editions
  • Sigrid’s sponsorship nice idea: tiered pizza purchases trigger on-screen animations (pizza boxes stacking); needs interface development

Joomla Awards

  • Cyril building a nomination and voting form using RSForm (OSM-approved, already on joomla.org)
    • Sandbox version in progress; target: share a testable version next week
    • Categories under consideration: best IDE, best ecommerce extension, best page builder, best hosting for Joomla, etc.
    • Public vote for extensions/tools; OSM Board/community members vote for contributor awards?
  • Award logo/identity: Cyril mocked up a trophy incorporating the Berlin TV Tower (tied to JWC location)
    • Concern raised: too Germany-specific if the event moves; shelved for now, new concept needed
  • Next step: finish the form first, then revisit branding for the J!Awards (Name selected unanimously).

Next Steps

  • Finish site audit in the assets folder and share access gaps (Cyril)
  • Locate and share Rutgers study recordings with the content team (Mike, via Laura)
  • Read Rutgers report; draft menu structure and first homepage wireframe in Miro/Figma (Josean)
  • Set up Figma (and Miro) accounts; confirm sponsorship in tomorrow’s call with Figma (Richard)
  • Check bylaws on team-lead election process with Sigrid before the July 2 semiannual meeting (Emmanuel)
  • Finish RSForm nomination/voting form on sandbox; share link for testing next week (Cyril)
  • Produce a first PBF trailer for June/July; coordinate with PBF Team (Cyril)
