Welcome!
Welcome to our new Volunteers Portal team members! A quick introduction about each of us, and what we would like to contribute to the Volunteers Portal and what we would like to get out of our contributions personally. The current team can be viewed here: https://volunteers.joomla.org/teams/volunteers-portal-team
Roles within the team
We discussed the roles within the team and the responsibilities. The team is also looking for an Assistant Team Leader, some team members will think about this in the next days.
Goals for the next months
The team discussed the goals for the next months, the main goals are:
- Improve changing positions of members ( https://github.com/joomla/volunteers.joomla.org/issues/154 )
- Improve the tools & workflow for teams to communicate with each other, like sending email messages to all team members ( https://github.com/joomla/volunteers.joomla.org/issues/155 )
- Improve the ability to match open positions (see the Help Wanted page) with volunteers willing to contribute based on skills & interests. We need to add the skills to the volunteer profiles and roles for that and allow to set if a volunteer is available for the role. ( https://github.com/joomla/volunteers.joomla.org/issues/119 )
- Implementing a system (e.g. badges) to recognise volunteers for their contributions across the entire Joomla!-project and make contributions visible on profiles, in collaboration with the Volunteer Engagement Team. This needs further discussion with the VET team at JWC as it needs to be worked out well in advance before starting to code. How will the system looks like and how can we make sure that all contributions (also offline, like organising a JUG-meeting) are taken into account and how will the “points earned” be defined and standardised.
To keep track of the goals and smaller issues we will start working with labels and milestones on our Github repository: https://github.com/joomla/volunteers.joomla.org/issues & https://github.com/joomla/volunteers.joomla.org/milestones
Teamwork
The team has a Glip channel for the day-day communication and will have a monthly online meeting via Google Hangout. This will take place every 2nd Monday of the month, 16:30 UTC. The next meeting is scheduled for December 11th. Communication around features and issues will take place on Github: https://github.com/joomla/volunteers.joomla.org/issues
