Discussion outline
We were requested as a Team to answer a survey from the Professionalism Committee about a Task & Project management solution(s). After an internal discussion, we have provided to them our answer that can be summarized like this:
Github with the current Issue Tracker is all that we need for now. Additional features in Github can be utilized to improve the current state of managing the project from the team level. Additional tools will only increase overhead for little return. Our need is volunteers and contributors to coding/testing.
Bug Tracker process
We spent the whole meeting discussing the internal draft document which is aimed at updating and clarifying the issue process and the pull request process. This is quite a task and additional meeting will be need to get the document to a finalized state. New features are available in the mean time to all the contributors to help them to test pull requests in the joomla 4 branch such as the new feature that lets you to download a full package with the pull request without the need to install complex tools like git, composer or npm.
This feature has been documented here:
https://docs.joomla.org/Testing_Joomla!_patches#Prebuild_packages
For those curious enough here is the relative pull request:
https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/pull/28409
At the end of our meeting we have made agreement on two points:
- first set a confirmed status on real new issues and how that will be managed
- second set a priority on new issues and who is responsible for the process
We will continue in next meeting’s to focus on this subject.
