After some personnel changes at the end of 2023, Patrick Jackson has been acting as Team Leader throughout 2024 and into 2025. Patrick's location in Australia, and availability during 2024 for meetings has been limited, so there's not been any regular meetings held during the year.

The Events Team is primarily an administrative group, tasked with "Overseeing approvals and publishing of JoomlaDays, Joomla User Groups meeting events and related official global Joomla events." During 2024, that was exactly what was done - quietly, and without fanfair.

During 2023 as you can see in reports, the Events team had been trying to sort out technical issues on the Joomla Community site. The following have been actioned successfully in 2024:

• The Event and User Group Subdomain system has finally had some action to close some final technical gaps. A starting example is the Guided Tours User Group at https://guidedtours.joomla.group/, while https://joomla.events is set up as a redirect to the Event Calendar. Next stage is setting up a form to facilitate requests as well as establishing policies for who can register to use the subdomains. More information will be available soon on the community blog, JCM and Joomla's social media channels.

• Event Coordinators will now notice a number of improvements to the Event creation workflow. Highlights include:
  • Ability to upload images at the time you create the event.
  • Creation of an Event Owners permission group for regular event coordinators that allows you to edit your own event without needing it to be verified again. Regular contributors will be added to this group after they submit their next event if not already escalated.

At the end of 2023 some preliminary discussions on looking at a future Joomla World Conference began. With OSM board changes and direction changing, these early discussions will need to be rebooted by the Outreach Department at a future date.

In 2024 there were 67 events listed on the Joomla Events Calendar, made up of 25 Ask OSM Anything events, 25 Joomla User Group sessions and events, and 17 Joomla Days or other miscellaneous events.

In 2025 the overall structure of the Outreach Department is being revisited and how Events Team will be structured will be discussed in coming months.
