Marketing Meeting - 23 April 2026
By Cyril Reze on 2026-04-26 13:21 in Marketing Team
Date: 23 April 2026 - 19:45-21:00 CEST (5:45pm - 7pm UTC)
Attendees: Cyril Rezé, Josean Telleria, Mike Kritzer, Richard Gosler (first 15 min)
The meeting began with an informal conversation about global fuel prices. This ultimately underscores the impact of the global geopolitical situation. The Joomla ecosystem is inevitably also affected, whether through event ticket sales, sponsorship acquisition, extension developers, agencies offering websites with the Joomla CMS, or the entire ecosystem as a whole.
Richard could only be present at the meeting for the first fifteen minutes.
Cyril therefore announced in his presence that he would take a two-week break from his active participation in Joomla!, in order to recharge his batteries and get his own business back on track.
The meeting continued with Mike, Josean, and Cyril in attendance. Cyril began by outlining the points to be addressed and those already prepared for the next two weeks, so that the marketing team could continue its efforts.
- The visuals for the supported tickets and the announcement of the first responders have been finalized. This allows the JWC and social media team to focus on social media communication for the coming weeks.
- The JWC banners are now in place on the Joomla sites: portal homepage, forum, JED, etc.
- The extension developers' newsletter is almost ready to be sent. Emmanuel has received an updated list of JED developers' email addresses, thanks to Mark.
- Josean expressed willingness to assist with visual tasks using Canva during the two-week period.
- Emmanuel's idea on Mattermost to create a speakers' kit for the JWC caught the marketing team's attention as a good idea to explore. Mike suggested including promotional materials and templates to facilitate event promotion.
The meeting then focused on the challenges and needs within the Joomla marketing team.
- Joomla Website Redesign Priorities
- The group agrees on the priority of focusing marketing efforts to help the relaunch of the joomla.org portal in order to better communicate about the Joomla project and to facilitate the attractiveness of Joomla, whether to users, especially as Mike points out, to young users, but also to sponsors, agencies, developers, companies, events and the media and press.
- Need to balance design work with technical improvements.
- Addressing issues with the events page and third-party extensions used on the community site.
- The group also discussed the importance of showcasing Joomla through both extension developers and agencies, with Josean emphasizing the need to leverage Joomla's existing marketing advantages over competitors like Wix and Squarespace.
- Working closer with the Operations department. Josean has ideas to share. He will talk with Carlos too (Cyril will ask Carlos if he's ok to be added back to Marketing Team Mattermost channel, since he's back as Operations DC)
- Joomla Events
- It is necessary to improve the support available to event organizers to facilitate their implementation and effectiveness. Josean shared his successful experience with JoomlaDay Spain and the keys to making this event a success.
- The group agrees that today, an event can no longer be organized as it was 10 years ago. It is necessary to reinvent ourselves and implement solutions that can open access to a wider audience, particularly by offering an online experience.
- It is also necessary to draw conclusions from recent failures to organize certain events, such as the 2024 world conference which was cancelled, in order to enrich our experiences and improve our methods, and not repeat the same mistakes.
- Within the Joomla volunteer community
- Language Barriers in Team Leadership: Thanks to Laura, we were able to hold a meeting via Zoom with simultaneous translation. This allowed Josean to participate in the meeting, express himself in Spanish, and share his experience, thoughts, and ideas more effectively.
- Cyril points out that this is a step forward, because today, people who do not speak English or speak it with difficulty may feel excluded from leadership positions. Cyril and Mike discussed concerns about the risk of missing out on volunteers who could give a lot because of the English language barrier.
- Perhaps we need to reinvent how teams are organized. How can we review our concepts and processes to facilitate the onboarding of new contributors?
- Mike highlighted the need for younger involvement in the community.
- Cyril and Mike discussed challenges with the Joomla community, including outdated processes and barriers to progress.
- Josean emphasized the importance of collaboration and efficient workflow management, particularly highlighting challenges with volunteer engagement and project leadership.
The meeting ended with a general agreement from the whole group on the need to prioritize, and to move forward step by step, and to seek to simplify and improve processes in order to make volunteering more efficient and easier.
Giving the community a new boost through a new design and restructuring for the Joomla portal will facilitate all the work that a marketing team can provide to the entire Joomla community.
