We are pleased to announce the first beta release of the downloads site API.  This API is designed to make some of the data stored on the website available through a programmatic interface.  The initial release includes support for retrieving the download counts, the hash signatures of all files in a release, and the latest version number for each major version branch.

The API is designed based on the OpenAPI 2.0 specification and the documentation may be found at https://downloads.joomla.org/api-docs/

Similar to our software, the API will be versioned and the current version will always be shown on the documentation page as well as a change log published.

Feedback about the API may be posted to our websites issue tracker at https://github.com/joomla/joomla-websites including bug reports and endpoint requests.
